Delighted to be awarded a grant by the Research Council for Culture & Society at the Academy of Finland for our application “Civic Agency in AI? Examining the AI Act and Democratizing Algorithmic Services in the Public Sector”.

The transdisciplinary CAAI project engages law, ethnography, design research, and computational linguistics to devise responsible AI policies and practices in Finland and the EU.

We were awarded 500,000 euros for 4 years with an exceptional review score of 6 for our proposal!

An excerpt: “The panelists felt this was one of the strongest proposals they’d read and were enthusiastic about seeing it go forward. Outstanding, timely, relevant proposal – underpinned by novel methods, a well thought through plan, and an excellent network of collaborators.”

Kudos to our CAAI research team of doctoral researchers Antti Rannisto, Karolina Drobotowicz, Ana Paula Gonzalez Torres, and Kaisla Kajava at Aalto University and thanks to our collaborators Marta Choroszewicz, Bruna de Castro e Silva, and many others!

Looking forward to working with our team at the Department of Computer Science at Aalto University, the Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence, and international collaborators on this critical research area in years to come!
