A short video featuring my interview about fostering a responsible and inclusive AI ecosystem in Finland that nurtures international talent. I mention what makes AI innovation in Finland strong are the great universities, fantastic startup ecosystem, and solid public sector. AI that actually aligns with our values as a society requires building systems that have good governance, high trust, and accountability.
The video features Karoliina Partanen (Director of AI Finland), Prof. Nitin Sawhney (Department of Computer Science, Aalto University), Prof. Laura Ruotsalainen (Department of Computer Science, University of Helsinki), and Dr. Jose Luis Peralta (CEO, Partner, GIM Robotics). It was produced by Helsinki Partners and Flux Productions for the City of Helsinki during the AI Day 2024 organized by the Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence (FCAI) on October 21-22, 2024 at the University of Helsinki.
Thanks to the Department of Computer Science at Aalto University for hosting me as a Professor of Practice for the past 5 years. It’s been a rewarding and memorable experience working with so many awesome students, faculty and colleagues at Aalto, FCAI, HIIT, and our collaborating partners and universities.
As I embark on a transition from Aalto University I look forward to the next phase of engaging in these crucial themes and societal research going forward, whether I remain in Finland or move abroad in coming months.
